Enjoyable Dining Experience At One Of Our Locations

Various Types of Rice Garden Locations

The Rice Garden experience can be enjoyed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional dining locations. By using consistent building materials and equipment, we are able to construct and operate Rice Garden restaurants in a range of environments.

Supermarket Operations
We opened our first restaurant in a supermarket and we continue to be the industry leader in operating restaurants inside of host grocery locations. Our list of partners includes Albertson’s, Ball’s Food, Brookshire’s, Bashas’, Kroger, and Stater Brothers. In some instances, Rice Garden has replaced previous Asian restaurants that cannot deliver the consistent quality that has made Rice Garden famous. Our typical supermarket location ranges from 500 to 800 square feet in size. Our working relationships with grocers differ slightly from chain to chain, but the common thread is that hosting a Rice Garden restaurant within their supermarkets proves to be a win-win equation for everyone involved.

“Of the thousands of items on sale in our Chandler, Arizona supermarket, Rice Garden’s two item combo and three item combo are among the most purchased items. Clearly, they are an important part of our daily business,” said Ike Basha from Bashas’ Supermarkets.

University Operations
Our experience in working with universities around the U.S. has given us a unique position as institutional specialists. We understand the environment and are accustomed to such things as serving the highest volume of food at peak periods. By organizing our operations properly, Rice Garden restaurants can serve approximately 500 students in as little as two hours.

We also invest in our communities as with colleges and universities, students typically compose half of our restaurant work force. We recruit, train and invest in our employees and can often transfer students to other Rice Garden locations during summer and winter breaks so that they can maintain their employment.

Food Courts
Several of our restaurants are located in the food courts within malls and entertainment complexes. We look forward to further expansion in this area since it is a growing market segment across the country.

Street Locations
We have four inline Rice Garden locations on popular thoroughfares. These locations give us the opportunity to maximize our identity while also giving our regular customers the opportunity to find us at school, in the malls, inside supermarkets and as traditional quick-serve restaurants – making us THE destination for home meal replacements. We are currently working with developers to expand this portion of our business to create a flagship restaurant. This new restaurant will showcase our newest and most innovative design to optimize customers’ dining experience.

Physical Description and Criteria for a Rice Garden Restaurant

Rice Garden currently owns and operates 80+ locations in ten states. All of these current restaurants operate within a host location such as a grocery store or food court. If you are interested in hosting a Rice Garden restaurant within a new or existing location, or if you are a developer interesting in working with Rice Garden in a particular city or region, please consider the following preliminary criteria for restaurant development:

  • Physical Space – Typical Rice Garden locations require between 500 to 800 square feet of space for our kitchens, plus optional room for seating.
  • Utilities – Our locations require the basics of any restaurant including electrical, water and plumbing services, and natural gas connections. Due to our streamlined operations, we can successfully work in a range of locations.
  • Consumer Demand – Rice Garden restaurants are designed and staffed to serve up to 250 customers per hour. We work hand-in-hand with our host partners to set expectations and create our operations to match the environment. Typically, we look for locations that maintain a consistent flow of consumers throughout the day.
  • Cleanliness and Safety – We have a solid track record for cleanliness and safety, and we seek locations and hosts who share this reputation.

“Unlike their larger competitor, Rice Garden prepares their food fresh every day in our kitchen. In addition to being the highest volume concept in our food court, Rice Garden also consistently has the highest increase in sales every year, with increases of 12% to 15% annually.”

Marc Tuchman,
Director, Student Center
University of California, Irvine

The management at Rice Garden has continually been recognized by our host locations for our professionalism, smooth operations and great food.

“In the 12 years we’ve done business with Rice Garden, I have not had to deal with a single issue that came across my desk. It was always resolved and the food today is every bit as good as it was when we started working together.”

Fred Schuit,
Sr. VP of Operations
Albertson’s
